Institute of Hydrobiology

Institute Activities

The main task of the Institute is to conduct fundamental and applied scientific research to obtain new scientific knowledge in the fields of hydrobiology, hydroecology, ichthyology, protection of aquatic living resources, and rational nature management.

In 2016, the Presidium of the NAS of Ukraine approved the following main scientific research directions:

• study of biological diversity and functioning mechanisms of freshwater ecosystems as a basis for developing bioindication, monitoring and management technologies;
• study of physicochemical processes of migration, transformation and biological effects of radionuclides and chemical pollution on hydrobionts;
• assessment and forecasting of ichthyofauna status in various water bodies for rational use of aquatic living resources;
• molecular-biological, cellular and physiological research of hydrobionts as a basis for developing aquaculture technologies.
